I thought I was just showing up with my Mom to prove my family loyalty. Margaret at a scrap booking party? (ludicrous) I knew that I would try to hunt some items to buy from the catalogue-- after all, my sister-in-law was the hostess and my niece was the scrap booking consultant. I didn't realize that I would have to produce a CRAFT--this abomination is the Christmas card in July that I struggled with, only because I didn't want to hurt my lovely niece's feelings by refusing to even try. I do have many talents, and am really not overly modest at admitting to them. As most of you have already seen, I am not afraid to make fun of myself either because my self-deprecating wit has kept my ego relatively un-bruised. What I am saying here is that I have NO talent whatsoever for crafts of any kind, no vision, no ability to make something look decent. I am used to feeling intelligent and capable; making this card reduced me to near desperation, as I tried to cover up my snowman without a face with the diagonally placed blue piece of paper. Although I didn't belong here at all, my mom was in the same predicament as I; I inherited my craft "inability" from her, so we commiserated with each other and laughed at each other's artwork in the corner. What I also enjoyed was getting to see my Aunt S. and my cousin L. who traveled from Seattle to exhibit their family loyalty. In addition to chatting with them, I got to visit Ashley's Tinkerbell water color, now framed and hanging in my sister-in-law's family room.
She may have dreadlocks, but doesn't she do wonderful art work? I get teary looking at what she can do with a canvas; I also get a bit weepy about what I see on her head these days. Speaking of tears, tomorrow Alison and I will go to get her driving permit. She is excited, and can't wait to drive back from the Driver's Licensing office, then maybe down to pick up her friend C. for gym. So, if you don't hear from me again, adieu my dear blogger friends. Hoist a Hefeweisen in memory of me, from time to time-- or every evening if you prefer.
